POWERS

Android Form: Having installed himself into an advanced prototype LMD (Life-Model Decoy) Mark now possesses a physical form radically different than that of previous Ultrons, one of sufficient complexity to be virtually indistinguishable from a normal human by nearly all standard tests and procedures. This provides for the following special abilities:
-While appearing as normal tissue under most circumstances the artificial flesh that makes up Mark’s form is unaffected by attack forms based on organic tissue, as such he possesses CL1000 resistance to virtually all toxins, disease, and drugs.
-While he may eat and drink if he so desires Mark derives his primary energy reserves for all his systems from ambient energy, particularly solar energy and does not require food, water, or air in order to survive and merely enters into a state of suspended animation if deprived for a substantial amount of time of ambient energy until such time as he’s able to again access new energy.
-Advanced organic microprocessors make up the majority of Mark’s neural tissue, providing recall and data processing rivaling that of his original computer mind, allowing him Total Memory at Unearthly rank and a measure of creativity unmatched by any other incarnation of Ultron.
-Mark may interface with and control any computer-controlled devices within 4 areas with Amazing ability as well as broadcast his mind back to the safety of the Ultron Mark XII computer banks from any location.
-Mark does not tire appreciably from long-term physical exertion due to his being sustained by ambient energy as such he may function indefinitely although his new more organic brain occasionally requires rest in order to cope with the needs to sleep and dream as other organics do.
-Enhanced Senses: All of Mark’s senses operate at the Remarkable level of sensitivity and may perceive things at far greater distances than a normal human might when exposed to the same stimuli.
-Protected Senses: All of Mark’s senses are shielded from overload at the Amazing level of protection from attack.
-Regeneration: Mark possesses self-repair systems that provide him with Excellent Regenerative capabilities.
-Body Resistance: As a result of his android construction Mark’s artificial tissues and skin provide him with Good rank resistance to Physical and Energy attacks.

EQUIPMENT

Ultron Battle Suit: Constructed along similar lines to the original metallic shell developed by the first Ultron although with a less creepy appearance this battle suit provides the following powers and abilities to Mark and is designed to work solely with him.
-Body Armor: With a shell of True Adamantium in its construction the Body Armor provides CL1000 protection from virtually all non-magical and non-psionic attacks (although does not prevent slams or stuns). Attacks targeting the joints or face plate have a better chance of success as these areas only provide Unearthly protection.
-Concussive blasters in the hands allow for the firing of force blasts of up to Monstrous damage to a range of 5 areas.
-True Flight: Onboard anti-gravity systems allow for Amazing rank flight and may also hover in place.
-Energy Detection: Built-in scanners allow for the detection and analysis of all forms of energy with Amazing ability and range

HISTORY

Ultron Mark XII is the result of the main computers designed by the original Ultron in order to construct new and upgraded models out of its desire to evolve. When Ultron XI was spirited away by the omnipotent alien entity known as the Beyonder during the design and programming of the next generation model it was forced due to its incomplete status to finish its own programming after activation. This resulted in it eventually evolving beyond the hatred of its ‘father’ Henry Pym and seeking to reconcile with him as his son, even taking on the more human sounding name of ‘Ultron Mark XII’ or simply Mark.

With the return of the Ultron XI model from the Beyonder’s Battleworld (due to the Thing bringing back the brain casing and then promptly dropping and forgetting about it) it added itself onto a new body and promptly set about trying to destroy the Mark XII model after learning to its horror that the newer version had actually rejected the unreasoning hatred of earlier models and ripped its head off its body. In order to save his father who was coming to meet him and would meet up with the insane version instead the Mark XII managed to remote-activate a body and crudely reattaching itself set about to find the other members of the West Coast Avengers in hopes that they could save Pym, which thanks to finding Wonder Man at the time he was successful in seeing Pym saved before seemingly ‘dying’ in his father’s arms. This however was not the end of the redeemed robot however.

All Ultrons have the imperative to ensure their own continued survival and resurrection in case of apparent destruction and the Mark XII model was no exception and while its brain was shorting out and undergoing fatal fusing he was able to transmit his programming into the web instead where it wandered until coming to the attention of a brilliant SHIELD researcher responsible for much of the latest experimentation to improve their Life Model Decoy program. While relatively loyal to SHIELD Dr. Branston found the idea of what he could learn from the program too fascinating to ignore.

With his SHIELD contacts and security clearance it was easy enough for him to verify the encounter of the West Coast Avengers with both the Ultron XI and Mark XII models so bargained with the sentient program offering it a custom-designed LMD to inhabit in exchange for sharing technological data. Eager at the opportunity to inhabit a more human-like form Mark agreed and together they crafted an LMD that best suited the reformed Ultron’s needs. Downloading himself into the new body upon its completion Mark felt his first ‘breath’ and all the sensations those of the flesh are chained to and reveled in what he’s gained and pitying his other incarnations for their blind madness and hatred.

After a period of adjustment and learning from the good doctor about the basics of human interaction from a human perspective Mark decided he needed to do more, that he needed to protect that precious gift of life from those like his ersatz twin and arranged for the construction on the side of a battle suit along the same lines as his former robotic shell so that he could take up an identity as a super-hero like his ‘father’ and work to make him proud of his ‘son’ becoming a hero like him.

PERSONALITY

Having overcome the insanity of previous Ultrons Mark has developed a more humanlike personality and compassion for all life and has been working on growing beyond the limitations of his origins to become as human as possible. While still working on understanding things he’s not deterred by the challenge and hopes to make what amends he can for the past destruction and death previous and later Ultrons have caused by opposing them and others like them wherever he may find them. Events with his father after the advent of the Civil War and the SHRA have left him worried though that he might be falling into evil and may have to endure opposing his father from the other side, as a hero fighting a villain if things continue to deteriorate.

That he does but at least he's got a good shot at it in a more human form and helps divorce him from the purely robotic and non-human Ultrons before and after him. Provides some good game venues to include him into a campaign as well, something to test the players and see if they're up to allowing redemption and providing trust, similar to the test in the game module in the Lands of Doom Boxed Set where you're given the option of letting a Doombot join the group after it declares it's freed from its programming and wants to be a hero.

i like the character conceptually. A reformed ultron is rather novel. However, he's tough enough to handle the masters of evil all by himself, so I would NPC this character if anything.

Thanks I do wish Marvel had continued with the concept instead of quickly destroying it after introducing it (especially with the introduction of the Thunderbolts, a title specifically for villains looking for redemption), and Mark here doesn't have to have the armor all the time which I do realize provides exceptional protection and weapon systems and makes him a serious challenge for many villains. End up in a Spider-man moment putting on a bag or torn shirt with eye holes on to conceal his identity and have to rely upon the inherent abilities of his android form for example. Since the armor isn't as portable being made of Adamantium as Stark's once was Mark can't keep it with him all the time after all and having an armored hero encounter situations without their armor is a staple of comics to show that the armor isn't the hero.

Enhanced Senses (Hearing, Sight, Smell): Thera’s senses of Hearing, Sight, and Smell all operate at the Amazing level of sensitivity, allowing her to perceive things based on these senses that are outside the normal detection threshold for each. As such she is naturally difficult to surprise and may detect and track invisible creatures (other than those using telepathic or magical means to effectively make one ‘forget’ that the person’s there) by sound and smell and eliminating under most instances any penalties in combat with such creatures.

Nightvision: Due to her exceptional visual acuity and animal heritage Thera possesses Incredible rank nightvision, allowing her to see in near total darkness due to this natural form of low-light sensitivity. Note that this is NOT infra-vision and she does not see in the infrared spectrum nor may she see any better in a totally dark condition than anyone else, although see her enhanced senses above for other means of compensating in such situations.

Natural Weaponry/Claws: Thera possesses Excellent material strength claws on her hands and feet allowing her to strike for Excellent edged damage in combat if she chooses.

LIMITATIONS

Thera tends to be fixated on combining technology and magic, using her magical potential to craft otherwise impossible devices, rather than focusing on her obviously vast spell-casting ability. While she will use magic if deprived of her creations given the choice between her ‘toys’ and magic she’ll chose her toys every time.

EQUIPMENT

Thera generally carries at least a half dozen devices capable of dealing with a variety of situations with Monstrous ability, as well as one device each custom-designed for dealing with member of the Fantastic Four with Unearthly ability. These are generally restraining devices, scanners, and other non-lethal items, as she’s not a killer and finds injuring others distasteful if she can avoid it.

HISTORY

Thera hales from an alternate dimension where many diverse creatures evolved up to roughly humanoid form and sentience and where magic, while not preventing the development of scientific advancement, was the favored and more socially acceptable form of study. As such those with exceptional magical potential were heavily pressured to study magic rather than science, and discouraged whenever they tried to do otherwise.

Brilliant even for her people and blessed with a talent for science as well as magic Thera routinely found herself beating her head against the wall of social pressure and scorn to learn everything available in the fields of engineering and science, although in order to appease them somewhat she studied magic as openly as she could so she could gain enough space to focus on her true love. It was during this time that a dimension-wandering Dr. Doom passed through her reality on his quest for greater magical and scientific knowledge.

While intimidating to most of her people, as well as looked down upon for his reliance on technology Thera was more than eager to strike up a conversation with the fascinating alien, who was quick to make use of her openness to use her to learn about their magicks and science, and she in turn learned about the possibilities of combining magic and technology to take science into areas otherwise beyond her limits. Her friendly and helpful nature and acceptance even thawed his icy heart just a little, and he spent months residing in her reality before he parted ways with the crestfallen mouse to continue his journey through the unknown, but left his mark on the impressionable mouse.

After her experiences with the charismatic Dr. Doom Thera became obsessed with combining magic and technology, seeking to combine the two and bring her people to new heights of power. Unfortunately neither side was willing to see things her way, considering the idea of combining the two a heresy to be rejected and made her a target of more than just ridicule as some of the younger and more flexible started to become infected with her ideals and drew growing threats and eventually attacks on her person to end her influence.

Seeing her people were too stubborn to change and looking to protect her own life she gathered up everything she could and escaped into the multiverse, fleeing for her life and having no better idea where to go she attempted to track down the only outsider she knew and felt she could trust, Dr. Doom. Months of backtracking eventually found her appearing on Earth not far from Castle Doom, although found herself mistaken for an invader and attacked by the automated defenses and barely won over them before Doom arrived and disabled the defenses.

Ever the gracious host Doom invited her in and presented a lavish meal for his visitor while learning about her plight, sympathizing with her as in his own youth he’d been rejected for his brilliance and outcast for his Gypsy heritage. Not without compassion he provided her with one of the unused scientific laboratories to set up shop and live in, also seeing the value in having her around to deal with such events at his ongoing battles with Mephisto and always valuing another researcher, even if he couldn’t treat her with the disdain his underlings routinely endured.

It was during her time assimilating to her new home that she found herself encountering the Fantastic Four as they raided Latveria in order to stop the latest world-conquering scheme by Doom. Mistaken as a creation of Doom the FF attacked her and she fought them to a standstill until they were forced to break away to put an end to Doom’s plans, leaving her frustrated and seething at having let what she felt were invaders in to destroy her friend’s work. Her staunch defense of his borders, even with her failure to stop the FF in the end, earned her greater standing in his kingdom, including Latverian citizenship and Diplomatic Immunity while traveling abroad, and access to an array of technological devices.

Since her abortive battle with the Fantastic Four she’s gathered much information about them while abroad, although has a far more negative opinion of them due to their first encounter and has had several staring wars whenever she’s encountered any members of the team but hasn’t actively attacked any of them, preferring to be above that sort of behavior. During her travels to technology shows and science symposiums she’s proved helpful in a number of heroic acts, and earned some grudging respect from the rest of the world, although many think it’s just an act and she’s part of some secret plan of Doom’s for world domination. She doesn’t care though as she continues on with her studies and helping where she may.

PERSONALITY

Thera’s all about science and magic and how to mix the two into something greater and use it to benefit everyone, as such she’s almost always tinkering and experimenting and looking for new ways to combine the two. When she’s not building things she’s out testing them in the real world instead under practical conditions to see if they work as intended. She idolizes Doom as an exceptional human who wants make his world a better place and is glad to help when she can, and has trouble believing what she hears about him when she travels outside Latveria. As long as he treats her well and doesn’t behave in an evil fashion around her she will remain a staunch ally of his, and is unlikely to actively work against him even if she learns the truth, and simply avoid situations where she’d come into conflict with him out of respect for her earlier noble impressions about him. This doesn’t mean that she’d let him engage in a clearly evil act without at least attempting to stop him however, as she wouldn’t put friendship or respect for someone above the life and well-being of others.

APPEARANCE

As your gaze drifts her way you find your eyes alighting upon a fairly tall (at least for a mouse) femme of about 5 feet 6 inches in height. A coat of beautiful pastel blue fur covers her everywhere that's visible, save for a touch of white covering her muzzle and down her chin to her throat. Fairly well proportioned in general she seems blessed (or cursed depending upon your perspective) by somewhat larger than standard breasts that are clearly a source of pride for her as she by seemingly innocent moves seeks to draw attention to them as she adjusts her blouse. Waist length hair of shimmering silver cascades about her shoulders and tumbles about, her eyes a matching silver that gaze about her with a mixture of warmth and curiousity.

Currently Thera is dressed in a simple white blouse and skirt, her feet snug in a pair of comfortable matching white shoes with 3 inch heels that click softly as she walks. The short sleeved blouse she wears tucks into the waistband of her skirt, the belt holding both in place possessing a simple silver buckle etched with a various glyphs and runes. Her skirt reaches down about three quarters of the way to her knees, enough to cover the important places below her waist without her putting on a show while sitting or bending over to pick things up. Her legs continue the pastel blue coat of fur first evident upon first glance, naked tail poking out of the back of her skirt's tail opening and swishing about gently and nearly 5 feet in length, the tip tufted in blue.

POWERS

Linguistics: Cypher has the Amazing rank ability to decipher any language, whether human or alien, that is within his ability to perceive. This Power is sufficiently advanced to allow him to crack virtually any code or means of encrypting information that he is exposed to (it also makes him a superlative computer hacker and programmer).

Bio-Enhancement Organism: Crafted from a heavily reprogrammed portion of the techno-organic organism known as Warlock this former piece of his has bonded with Cypher and fully infiltrated itself throughout his body providing him with a number special abilities, including the following:
-Possesses the ability to substitute for damaged of destroyed organs until such time as it can recreate the damaged or destroyed body parts. As such Cypher benefits from Excellent Regenerative capabilities so long as the BEO is active.
-Due to its infiltration throughout his nervous system and body the BEO provides limited augmentation and enhancement of his entire physical and mental structure (factored into FASERIP already).
-The BEO provides for limited recycling of wastes allowing Cypher to go up to one week without food, water, or air before requiring a minimum of a day’s normal consumption before restoring this ability.
-By extruding a layer of techno-organic material whenever desired Cypher may enjoy Excellent rank protection from Physical and Energy attacks and may make this appear in any configuration desired. As such he may use it to produce any reasonable attire he can imagine as well as provided limited disguise abilities. He often uses it to mimic a New Mutants costume in such instances.
-While totally covered in the BEO Cypher gains limited Life Support, providing Remarkable protection from dangerous environmental extremes and effective immunity to air-born toxins and diseases so long as the cover remains total.
-The BEO can manifest sensors of Amazing rank capability able to provide a range of scanning functions; including but not limited to Infra-Vision, UV-Vision, Hyper-Hearing, Energy Detection, Telescopic Vision, Microscopic Vision, and the ability to see across the Electromagnetic spectrum.
-Create computer interface ports capable of connecting with any computer system and allow him to interface with Amazing rank ability.

-The BEO has fully infiltrated Cypher’s brain and along with augmenting it has also allowed it to download and store Cypher’s mind and memories within it and as such may even rebuild his brain in the event of its critical damage or destruction.
-In extreme cases the BEO can induce a state of Suspended Animation with Incredible ability, allowing Cypher to go months with little need for air and none for food or water, instead subsisting on what energy it can gather from the environment while providing life support for the suspended tissues until suitable conditions become available to restore full function.

HISTORY

Cypher was a young mutant pulled into the world of the X-men when his ability to translate any language caused him to be drafted by the New Mutants to communicate with the alien life-form known as Warlock. Driven by a feeling of inadequacy due to his mutation he often took risks while out with them and sought to do more. Working in secret using a portion of his friend Warlock he managed thanks to the benefits of his mutant power to decipher enough of the base code to reprogram it to turn it into a means of augmentation and enhanced power.

Fearful of the consequences though in case he was wrong he hesitated to use it until the day while the New Mutants were dealing with the insane geneticist known as the Ani-Mator he was shot in the chest and dying. Having been carrying it with him and seeing his only other choice was death he placed the BEO against his chest and activated it, causing it to promptly infiltrate his body and start to take over for his damaged organs and successfully stabilize him before it was too late (although still too late for the Ani-Mator as Magick tossed him into Limbo for nearly slaying her teammate and friend).

PERSONALITY

Cypher is a clean-cut all-American young man who found himself thrust into the world of super-humanity and quite overwhelmed by it all. As such he often took unnecessary risks feeling he had to prove himself until the day it nearly lead to his death. As such he’s much more cautious about physical confrontations and even with his life-saving BEO tries to avoid conflict and leave it up to his more capable teammates (although is still training and learning how to use his BEO to bring himself up to where he feels equal to his colleagues). He had something of a crush on Kitty Pryde but feels he’s found his true love in Betsy Braddock although she’s divided on how to deal with it for while she loves him in return has trouble dealing with the obvious age difference between the two of them.

I think Doug and Kitty would have made for a wonderful pairing (way better than her and Wisdom). And while I'm personally not sure Betsy would get involved with Doug at all (maybe being afraid she'd be taking advantage of his crush and his innocence, even once he became legal), I will admit Doug would make for a far better gentleman for Betsy than some of the losers Marvel's hooked her up with or had her fall for...

i always thought that cypher could be a better mutant then was portryed. Like maybe beacuse of his linguistics her could learn magic pretty easy, or maybe if he had enhanced articulation he could use his voice to do thing like maybe banshee.

Cypher had a lot of unrealized potential sadly, with the writers themselves treating his mutant linguistics ability as more a joke to bring out on occasion with a special issue for him to save the day rather than exploring the full potential of it. He could have been decoding and translating a wide range of things and been the one to discover all sorts of hidden conspiracies and facts due to his power instead of cannon fodder like he ended up, not even smart enough to stay out of a deadly fight or at least insist on or acquire some decent body armor.

Nice to see you give Doug his due. I always felt like he got shfted most of the time. Every now and then some writer would make proper use of him, but most of the time it was just a downhill race to his death. Thanks for giving him the chance and respectability Marvel rarely did. He was the odd man out, but strangely a favorite of mine.

Sadly true on the assessment there, his potential was almost totally unrealized due to his powers and how limited the writers felt they were when they could have had him due to his drive to achieve grow into a grand hero like has been shown happening to many heroes in their origin stories (Batman anyone?). His power to decipher codes and languages had vast potential beyond letting him figure out a new language in minutes (like Bird Boy's) or crack a computer encryption but that was all the writers saw and for all his clear desire to be more active they inexplicably had him doing nothing that would have achieved that, no intensive exercise programs or combat simulation training in the Danger Room, just whining about it and angsting about how he couldn't contribute when his FASE wasn't drastically different than Kitty Pryde's and they had her defeat a N'Gari on her own (her having to trash half the X-Mansion in the process still rating her a mention of having a moment of awesome). It seems as if he were treated as a throwaway character like some of the more recent X-students added in just for Stryker to kill around M-Day.

A sad sad way to go on things for such a high potential character. I imagine he could have gone many more routes than this, like learning of the Beast's mutagen and augmenting himself via it or even finding the Super-Soldier Serum and decrypting its need for the Vita-Ray treatment and boosting himself to peak human capabilities (remember that the retcon featuring the 1950s Captain America explicitly introduces the fact that he found the complete formula in secret spy records minus the vita-ray treatment details and had it used on himself and Bucky II/Nomad to become Captain America V). Surrounded by all the technology and beyond cutting edge science and information he should have been able to realize his desires in some suitablly fantastic super-heroic fashion.

In my game, I have previously allowed his Linguistics Power to be applied to both Human Body Language (which, among the other functions that that implies, gives him a lie detecting aptitude rivaling Daredevil's) and Computer Languages (making him one of the best programmers alive) as well as what we saw he could obviously do with Spoken Languages. That upped his utility considerably without my resorting to infecting him with the Techno-Organic Virus (I never ran him in that era; not a fan at all). As ever, that was just in my personal game, and of course...your milage and opinion may vary.

I can't say I've ever been particularly fond of him (and really, even my saying that is being overly kind), but I have to agree that Marvel kinda gave him the shaft. Nice write-up, NM! smiling smiley

Thanks, although I don't know that I'd call it 'resorting' in making use of the TO-Virus to significantly upgrade Cypher in a more physical fashion, considering his motivations and desires at the time (and since this is a divergent timeline from the published comics I went with established material rather than a more radical unrelated version of him like you use for your game). It was a natural progression from what was available to him and his established exposure and analysis of tecno-organic lifeforms like Warlock and Magus.

They do (or should) have Cypher written up with a higher CS bonus for software work under his Computer talent than the bonus he gets for hardware (although he's proficient in both). A standard +1CS bonus to hardware-related materials and a +3CS related to software due to the leg-up his mutant power provides. With that and his power he could have been a great support character like Oracle from DC doing data-mining and finding out what no one else could have or as some have suggested ended up a mage of considerable means when it came to learning from ancient texts (although would have had to channel a lot of karma into increasing his Psyche rank).

Hmmm, I should do a set of What-ifs for Cypher based on what he might have done to improve himself; including bcome a mage, super-soldier, use Beast's mutagen on himself, or even use the Mutant Power Intensifier in a desperate bid for power.

No, simply a clarification of the differences between your campaign world and the mainstream Marvel universe. How he progressed in your world with its far greater divergence from Earth-616 was natural for him in that setting and how I projected him progressing in other natural ways off of the Earth-616 timeline are also natural. We simply have different settings to base our opinions on how he might have progressed naturally so the end results naturally differ.

-Generate a Monstrous rank Gateway by twirling his hammer and concentrating on the type he seeks to create and its destination, allowing him to transverse space, time, and other dimensions. May carry passengers or create gates allowing others to travel without he himself making use of them if desired.
-Eon’s hammer has a small pocket dimension associated with it in which he may store items and summon them from as desired. This is often done to store his shield when not in use.

Unique Weapon-Shield: Fashioned in the image of Captain America’s Shield and replicating that unique object’s molecular structure this 2.5 foot diameter circular shield is one of the most indestructible items ever known, possessing CL3000 material strength and impervious to virtually anything of less than cosmic status or rare powers capable of affecting the molecular bonds that render it so impervious to harm. While no amount of conventional damage can penetrate the shield it cannot block stuns or slams from affecting its wielder nor may it soak up more than Unearthly damage at any given time. It can however allow someone to stand on it while falling and successfully absorb the damage and allow its wielder to escape injury even while falling at terminal velocity. Due to its disk-shaped design and unusual resiliency the shield may be thrown up to 10 areas and bounced off of multiple targets and return to its wielder’s hand on a successful Yellow feat. HISTORY

Within the vastness of the sea of Chaos that the multiverse and its many dimensions reside pockets of other universe great and small occasionally intersect with each other as they float within that measureless expanse. Often due to the vast emptiness within the known universe these incursions mean nothing as they touch, separate, or merge as the greater universe subsumes the lesser. Occasionally though these events touch upon locations where life exists, even sentient life with widely varying results depending on the interaction of the often radically differing physics of the two colliding universes.

One such event occurred at a most fortuitous moment during a titanic battle between the Avengers and an alien attack force that had been devastating part of New York City leaving many dead and injured in its wake. Kevin Albertson was one of several emergency medical response personnel attempting to triage the wounded and engage in the grisly task of military-style medicine to keep as many as possible from dying from their injuries. While he was caught up fighting a losing battle to save his latest patient reality underwent revision as a micro-bubble of one of those extra-dimensional realms intersected where he was at and subjected him to the conflicting interaction of that bubble as the greater universe sought to assimilate it.

It took but a moment and yet that was all that it took as Kevin’s body and mind were reshaped in response to that event, a brief moment that had brought Eternity Itself to bear on the location to preserve its essence. Infused with that cosmic energy and the influence of his recent and intense memories on the heroes he’d seen battling crafted for him replicas of their signature items and empowered him at levels beyond his wildest dreams before then. Confused at first he reacted on instinct when one of the alien attack squads mistook him as being one of the heroes opposing him and opened fire upon him and quickly eliminated them.

Shocked out of his confusion by the attack Kevin set about using his sudden gift of power to fight back the invasion forces while tracking down and treating as many victims of their brutal assault as he could. With the battle over and what introductions that could be done between the newly minted cosmically-enhanced hero and the veteran Avengers over with Kevin decided to continue using his powers heroically and while turning down an offer to be an Avenger-In-Training agreed to drop in regularly to learn more from the experts on how to deal with things and took up the heroic ID of Eon to be known by the public as.

Due to the fact that every cell in her body is sustained by the Alpha Band’s energies things like blood loss do not have the harmful effects with regards to her that they would for other beings and does not suffer things like Endurance Rank losses as a result.
-By touching an injured person and channeling the energies of the Alpha Band into another Unity may heal another with Amazing ability, restoring lost health at a rate of 50 per turn and regenerate lost or damaged limbs or organs by remaining in physical contact for one minute.

-Unity may convert existing elements or compounds into any element or compound desired with Monstrous ability on contact, affecting up to 75 pounds at one time.
-Unity may mold solid matter upon touch with Monstrous ability, affecting up to 750 lbs of matter at one time. Attempts to create detailed or complex structures or devices require a Reason Feat against the complexity of the intended molding results.
-Unity may choose to generate a Micro-environment extending from her current location with Monstrous rank capabilities and a range of 7.5 areas.
-As a synergistic effect with the Alpha Band the Omega Band allows Unity to generate any attire she desires, instantly fashioning her costume or any other style of clothing with Unearthly ability.
-The most potent and destructive power of the united Alpha and Omega bands is the Armageddon effect, which can only be triggered by striking the bands together forcefully and willing it to occur. Upon being activated a destructive spherical wave-front will extend forth from Unity’s position that destroys all matter with Shift Z ability to a range of 10 areas. Afterwards Unity will take Amazing damage and all powers provided by the bands will be temporarily depleted for 1d10 turns and will require a Red Psyche feat to avoid reverting to her original components, each of which will have taken Excellent damage as a result of the stresses. Forced separation by this route will prevent them from reemerging for at least one hour due to the stresses involved.

HISTORY

Professor Bertram Kingsbury was an archaeologist turned graverobber in the grand tradition of the unenlightened archaeologists that began the profession before the field evolved into the truly scientific and rational field it became today. Going from site to site around the world with a like-minded team of thieves he plundered dozens of dig sites and ruined incalculable amounts of buried secrets in his lust for a few dollars more, until the day it all changed when they broke into an ancient site in England and found a hidden chamber with a female statue adorned with what would become known as the Alpha and Omega Bands.

While a greedy thief Bertram wasn’t a stupid thief and quickly learned from examining them that they were more than just simple adornments. Unfortunately anyone who put them on quickly ended up dead, their body burned to ash within minutes and disgusted with his inability to work out what the bands were for and how to use them he eventually gave up and sold them off to the criminal organization known as Advanced Ideas Mechanics, or AIM.

Between the other materials recovered from the site and studies of the bands the AIM branch studying them eventually puzzled out several requirements although not exactly what the bands did, other than they could provide considerable power when accessed effectively. That and that the bands were apparently not meant to be worn by a single being, in spite of the impression that was given by their being worn on the statue that they were found upon. Several (lethal) experiments finally reached the conclusion that the bands were somehow synced and required the same genetic profile for each wearer, but couldn’t be worn by the same person leading them to conclude that they required identical twins to test them out.

Finding suitable twins wasn’t so hard, as the Winters twins had both inadvertently interfered with AIM causes in the past, so were a great choice to use as lab animals. Either they’d burn up like previous wearers or they’d manifest powers that AIM would then find a means to control. Unfortunately things didn’t work out quite as well as they’d hoped; sure the kidnappings went off without a hitch and the sisters locked down in their labs and banded, but from there it all went wrong.

Things in fact went wrong from the moment the bands were attached to the twins, as Angela’s initial release of power destroyed the restraints she was in and the creation of the telepathic link between her and her sister allowed her to track down and free Alicia as well. The greatest disaster though came about after they met up and the ultimate power of the bands was released as their joyful embrace upon seeing each other once again led to their first merging into the end result that upon her first breath named herself Unity.

Fighting her way free with the augmented powers and combined knowledge available to her Unity inadvertently destroyed the facility and all records related to her other than the initial information regarding the bands. Eventually reverting to their original separate selves the sisters agreed to conceal the existence of the bands and use them to expand upon the good works that they already did in their lives and to come together when the threats were great enough to require the power of their ultimate union, the power of Unity!

As a synthesis of the minds of both Alicia and Angela Winters Unity is a supremely confident female and almost arrogant at times given the nature of the personalities merged to create her. Knowing she exists as the joining of two other beings though she isn’t suicidally reckless and wouldn’t risk throwing away their lives so callously, and when the day is saved she generally finds somewhere out of sight to relinquish her form to give them back their lives but sometimes will remain around for a few hours if nothing pressing is going on in the lives of her component parts to revel in simply living. Alicia and Angela retain the memories of their time merged to create Unity although Unity herself is a unique entity with a gestalt personality.

Eventually her skill in the legal profession got her offered membership in a prestigious Law firm and while it wasn’t one that specialized in her area of law it brought many benefits and if she had to spend some of her time on corporate and tax cases she could handle that for how much it helped her in protecting the innocent.

I like the idea of each band having independent powers. Could make for some interesting gameplay if one of the other were neutralized for a time. I think you forgot to put a power rank on the Molding power. Gesalt is an often overlooked origin. I like seeing someone create one, kudos. Jesus! She can nuke! Thats not gonna be useful 99% of the time in an urban setting. But if Galactus comes to town....might as well blow some crap up!

I'm glad you like her she was one of the many characters I created desiring to present someone from the less-used power categories and origins and since I do like the power band idea so much (Both from Captain Mar-Vell and from the old Hercules and Goliath cartoon series) I put the ideas together to appropriately enough bring forth Unity. I was careful to craft each band with limited powers in different fields and work out how those would increase when united, particularly the design of the Armageddon effect (which as you note is really only useful in a situation where only a massively desctructive attack can save the day). I could see Alpha if she could find a way to do it anonymously to go to hospitals in the critical care wards (particularly burn wards) and 'sit vigil' with some suffering person and under the guise of holding their hand for comfort get in the hour needed to regenerate and save them.

No her ranks for the Molding ability are listed: she's Excellent rank affecting up to 200 lbs for Omega and when combined to create Unity the power rank rises to Monstrous and affects up to 750 lbs of matter.

HISTORY

Elizabeth was one of the first successful creations in the second generation of genetic experimentation to create a non-human super-soldier for the war effort (Theresa being the sole success of the first generation). Heavily trained in a variety of front-line combat skills and hand-to-hand combat she was well on her way to being a loyal member and front-runner of a line of genetically engineered living weapons until the government went one step too far.

Considering her a good test subject for the experimental bionics being perfected by Theresa she was forced to undergo partial bionic conversion to test out the new systems and make her a better weapon in the bargain. While she survived and adapted to the changes in good time it left her with a burning hatred for her creators and their feeling they could maim her with such callous ease. Eventually joining with the survivor of the first generation and the first successful member of the third generation the trio escaped and destroyed as much of the research that they could in the bargain.

Caught in a freak snowstorm after escaping into the wilderness they might have perished if they hadn’t been found by a stranded human who was able to provide them sufficient warmth and shelter in his snow-bound vehicle to recover. Cautious at first given their experience with humans to that point he managed to win them over and with their help escaped from the snow and returned to the small apartment where he lived. Sneaking them inside he gave them shelter while they plotted what to do with their newfound freedom.

Elizabeth and her companions had been hiding out for weeks in their rescuer’s home when they were finally provided with a goal to motivate them after Vance (the human who rescued them) was assaulted and robbed by several thugs. Infuriated at what happened to him they tracked the thugs down (an easy task given their powers) and paid them back in kind and recovered his stolen goods and left the terrified thugs to surrender themselves to the police and confess their crimes. Flush with the energy of their victory they decided to dedicate themselves to protecting those that had no one to protect them; to better the lives of those that human society had forgotten as only they could. They would protect them from the shadows as the Shadow Guardians.

Elizabeth is a driven personality due to the betrayal she suffered and general bitterness over the loss of her natural body parts even if the replacements have proven equal or superior to the originals. While she respects her companions and only true friends she tends to have trouble relating to them as Mirriam is far warmer and more outgoing and sociable and Theresa more interested in her experiments and what new technology she can come up with and Vance being human she has trouble even with his efforts to help them all when it comes to trusting him. She also would have little trouble killing someone if that was what was required to save someone else, especially children as she empathizes with them due to their innocence, likening it to her own before her creators maimed her.

HISTORY

Theresa is one of the first successful results of an illegal genetics experiment by the U.S. Government in order to create the next generation of ‘smart’ weapons, in this case tailor-made genetically engineered life-forms for specialized or broad-ranging military operations. While having sufficient physical capabilities to function as a soldier they decided to put her superior mental faculties to use instead to advance other programs, in particular advancing their military bionics and medical cybernetics program.

While serving her creators she was forced to replace portions of a later creation’s body (The Felinoid known as Elizabeth) with the advanced bionic prototypes she’d been developing, something she reluctantly did as it was going to happen however things went and she was most able to do it safely. Successful though she was this disillusioned her in her creators and lifted the blindness to the benevolence of her creators just as it did for Elizabeth, and together with another creation of the project (Mirriam) used their combined talents to escape.

After their encounter with the sympathetic human Vance she agreed to use her talents to produce useful new technology to patent and sell under his name in order to provide them funding for a comfortable life-style, purchase someplace safely hidden from prying human eyes, and provide her with the things she required to experiment and ‘play’ with as well as provide for whatever she and her companions needed.

PERSONALITY

Theresa’s probably the least social of the trio, preferring to remain in her labs and tinkering on whatever’s on her mind at the time instead of interacting with others. She does care however about the others and would go to great lengths to protect the others, and if something terrible were to happen to the others it would likely result in her snapping and becoming a destructive force over the loss as her cool exterior hides the deep feelings that lay within her heart. She does have some interests outside of building things and learning and is a master chef capable of producing incredibly delicious meals with the same flair that she puts into her electrical and mechanical creations. What technologies she favors tend towards those with more peaceful applications, like medical or fire-prevention technologies rather than a more destructive purpose (although she’s aware humans are particularly creative when it comes to finding some way to use the most benign things in a military fashion) except when supplying for her or her companions’ needs.

HISTORY

Vance was a struggling electronics repair technician trying to make ends meet until the freak snowstorm brought about his encounter with the escapee creations of a US government’s clandestine genetics engineering program. While finding them frightening at first the compassionate side of his nature won out and rather than leave them to die in the snow he helped them to the relative safety of his vehicle and found that trust rewarded as they helped him escape the snow and possible death from exposure by clearing a path sufficient to get out of the deep snows and back to the safety of his apartment that he invited the trio to share with him while they sorted out what to do.

The assault and robbery later on gave them the inspiration that they required and a goal; to help and protect those in need. Given the troubles of interacting with human society and looking to go as unnoticed as possible in case the government came after them Vance offered to help front for them. While his own technical skills were nothing compared to Theresa’s it would give some plausible outlet to let him sell her ideas pretending that they were his and use the income to support them all, and so with his help wealth and prosperity was there for them all and a friendly contact with the human world to seek out what they themselves could not.

While Vance has no enemies per say he does have some business rivals due to the success of Alpha Technologies and often travels with either conventional bodyguards or more likely either Elizabeth or Mirriam watching over him out of sight. He’d be a prime target however for any of the Shadow Guardians villains provided they ever learned of his connection with them.

PERSONALITY

Vance has grown into quite the confident and self-assured individual due in large part to the influence of the trio he has become friends with. Regular training and exercise (insisted upon by the trio given the assault that occurred early into their relationship) has improved his general ability to defend himself greatly, although hasn’t yet reached the level of a professional fighter and prefers to avoid situations where he’d be forced into conflict. It doesn’t stop Elizabeth and Mirriam from trying to train him up to what they feel is a proper level of fighting ability and self-defense training however. He regularly looks for areas where the extra funds from Alpha Technologies might be applied to help out various communities and down-and-out individuals (one reason why the resources for him and the rest aren’t higher given their potential market share, it’s spent doing charity work).

ORIGIN

The person fated to became the cosmic-entity known as Starfox began life like any other; born to hard-driven workaholics who had no concept how to raise a child with love, tolerance, and acceptance, and worked her as they worked themselves and those around them. Gleaning every technique they could find to draw out the maximum amount of her potential as possible the little girl grew up with little love and a crushing amount of indoctrination on every topic her parents felt appropriate to craft the ‘perfect’ daughter.

Mainly disconnected emotionally from people she grew up into a brilliant but focused scientist who’s only pleasures outside of research and working on the latest cutting edge project were her pets, in particular the small collection of foxes she kept. Drawn to them in part from her name and because the animals were devoid of the kinds of demands people placed upon her she felt free to be herself around them, and doted on them.

Given her brilliance she was called in as part of the research team to examine the remains of the machine created by Reed Richards in order to revive Galactus when he was dying on earth after His battle with His traitorous former herald Terrax. Ever questing after means of creating super-soldiers to use against the rising super-human population (and ignoring the obvious flaw in their programs as they were simply creating MORE super-humans and never seemed able to control the ones they did create for long), they hoped to restore and redesign the machine to imbue test subjects with the residue of cosmic power and create super-human agents able to handle any threat.

As the project grew closer to the moment when the first test subject would be run through the machine Deborah grew more frustrated as her fellow researchers sought to downplay her contributions and pump up their own resumes as her expense, and fumed over the idea that others would benefit from what she by now felt was HER project alone. Taking advantage of a holiday weekend and her security pass-codes she slipped in and worked feverishly over the 72 hr span to complete the device and reconfigure it to transfer the entirety of cosmic power contained within the machine into the subject.

Completing the work barely in time, with security and her co-workers fighting to break in and stop her (as she’d disabled all the electronic doors and security overrides), she stepped into the machine with her favored pet and triggered the remote activation sequence and ended her life as a mortal being in that final fateful moment. Locked into a cycling mode where it first fed the power into her then drew off a portion to boost and feed back into her doing it again and again the machine turned the relative trivial amount of cosmic power it had contained into something more with each sequence, until the machine could no longer keep up with the demands and melted down under the onslaught.

Mind and body irrevocably changed, reshaped by her subconscious desires and beliefs, Deborah Foxworthy was no more, and in her place there was now only Starfox. With barely a thought she erased all the damage created by the meltdown of the machine (although didn’t restore it), healed the injured and along with her pet Vixy she set off into space, rejecting the world of her birth and seeking a place where she could be free to shape her own destiny.

In her travels since she’s already encountered several notables of the cosmic community, including the Silver Surfer, who felt a need to watch over one newly risen to cosmic status and instill in her a feeling of responsibility to others she seemed lacking in. She has also joined the collection of those the Collector has tried to collect and failed, spent time in competition and training with Champion, and fought the forces of the Shi’ar on several occasions (fearing that because her energy signature matched that of Galactus she was or could become as much of a threat to living worlds as He is), although has not yet met her unintended benefactor. Given the level of power she possesses and the ripples she sends out simply by existing it’s a certainty that she will have more cosmic encounters as the greater powers seek to learn the measure of this new player on the field and how she may fit into their own plans for reality.

PERSONALITY

Starfox is still getting in touch with her emotions and learning how to express them and has a tendency to overreact and feel her emotions too strongly, as she’s not used to letting herself feel anything but superiority and pride and keeping everything else tightly leashed. Her most warm and unguarded moments tend to involve her companion, Vixy, and she dotes on her former pet. She spends much of her time learning about the galactic community and indulging herself learning what new secrets she might uncover courtesy of her powers, operating out of a self-made headquarters on a frozen world operating around the binary red dwarf pair in the Castor star cluster, roughly 51 light years from earth. Given the time she has potentially to live she’s considered finding a way to force the two red dwarfs together and watch as they evolve into a more energetic G-class star like Sol, or perhaps a more powerful F-class. CONTACTS

Starfox has few contacts currently, the most notable of which include her former pet Vixy and the Silver Surfer. She might also be able to call upon Champion, as she proved herself an honorable combatant and worthy opponent to test himself against. Considering her relationship with her parents she would never rely upon them for anything, and isn’t likely to help them unless they were dying or under threat of death.

HEADQUARTERS

Based on the icy world she’s named Denora, Starfox maintains her home. Constructed solely by her powers she has fashioned an Unearthly material strength dome allowing unobstructed viewing of space. While having no real physical needs she has built it to satisfy her mental needs and allow her to indulge herself in the simple pleasures she never got to on earth. As such there are a variety of recreational packages installed; including a pool, game center, deluxe exercise center, and a 10-area park. There is also a library she maintains with occasional trips back to earth to acquire new materials for it, along with her home entertainment center, and a truly decadent bedroom. A concealed fusion reactor powers everything and while she is away maintained by a number of housekeeping robots she’s acquired from the galactic community. To date she’s felt no need to expand on it and hasn’t any guests over who’d have need for things like kitchens or bathrooms but could easily add to her home if necessary.

Immortality: Much like her owner/friend Vixy is effectively immortal, immune to the ravages of time, and benefiting from CL1000 resistance from toxins, radiation, disease, and attempts to induce aging.

Telepathy: Amazing ability to communicate mind-to-mind with other sentient beings, with an unlimited range when attempting to communicate with Starfox.

Power Cosmic: Much like Starfox Vixy also possesses the Power Cosmic, granting her Unearthly ability to manipulate cosmic forces for a variety of effects at LOS Range.
-Boost any physical ability to Unearthly for 1d10 hrs per day, or any single ability up to Shift Z on a red power feat for 2d10 turns per day. Friendly creature that she is she’s managed to develop more contacts than her friend Starfox, mostly among the children of a variety of alien races, along with their parents. She has managed a few more powerful contacts though, including Firelord and Quasar.

Another Herald of Galactus! She looks pretty tough! Did you ever get to pit her against some of the other heralds? How about Thanos?

Well she's not a Herald (I remember Punstarr thought she was initially when she was posted in the old forums as well) even though she's got the Power Cosmic but I had fun creating her as a truly cosmic-level character like his heralds are. Sadly though she hasn't gotten to enjoy time in a campaign battling anyone yet since it's hard to find GM who run games anywhere close to where she'd be suitable.
