Let's be honest...even in the 60's the team bickering, the "real-world" aspects, where all tame compared to the way the world was even then. Fans were excited about a new dynamic added to the traditon of superheroes, but the fans still wanted to read the comics for the same reason they read all those old DC comics: adventure and escapism. When this is lost there simply is no p

This will be the thread to discuss the online message board play-by-post game that I'll be starting soon. I've decided to start with play-by-post so to accommodate all the players who might live in other countries or in drastically different time-zones. Also, since I've never run a MSH game before, this will help me as far as rulings and the given out of information. I'm going

People forget that mainstream heroes and villains really shouldn't change that much. The illusion of change should always be taking place, but what Marvel has done is totally destroy the fantasy elements that made the comics so awe-inspiring in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Super-heroes are only quasi-serious and when you start to loose the camp and fun of it all it's time to

I apologize for not recognizing some of the traits of the mineral form in the UPB. It's been awhile since I looked at those descriptions. You are free to use any traits listed under the Mineral form that the UPB mentions. Those won't count against your Character Points either. I'll just consider it something like "racial traits" in D&D.

Your character looks good. I really like the concept. He fits the powerhouse archetype and that's one of the archetypes that any super-team needs. A minor quibble (Here it comes! Don't worry, I'm fair and reasonable.) I might have is his hyper-speed. It doesn't seem to fit with a metallic golem type characters (I'm thinking fantasy types like you mentioned) who are usuall

Storm_Beetle, it's under "House-Rules" and is called "With Great Power."
Well wolveswr, we could still play by post if meeting time is a problem. As a first time GM it would actually help me. It would be slower, but it would be a help to new players no doubt.
As of now I'm leaning towards the Avengers scenario. More to come...

Well you're certainly welcome to play. I'm thinking the ideal number of players would be four if the game is played live and no more than six if play-by-post. I'll also set up a yahoo group for easy access to house rules and resources. I would like to play live, so I'm thinking we could at least start the game using a regular messenger and move to Gametable if the group likes

I'm about to start an online game sometime soon set in an "idealized" Marvel Universe (Think a mish mash of 1960's-early 80's Marvel meets "What if Paul Dini and Co did a series about the Marvel Universe ala Batman: TAS, Justice League, etc?") with all the good stuff and none of the garbled continuity and un-heroic philosophies that plague modern superhero comic

The intrusion of "literalistic" Christian concepts in the Marvel Universe misses the point. Marvel, at its best, was an "all inclusive" universe. As far as the MU is concerned, Big Bang theory and biological evolution exists right along-side gods and magic. I LOVE that all-inclusiveness.
Christian myth is often portrayed as being superior to others simply because it is sti

Finished most of the basics, but I still will be adding a ton of stuff, most likely starting tommorrow. I think players will have just about all the info they need to create a character at this point.

A fed Galactus would not run from anyone. It's very lucky for all those heroes that they never encounter him in that state. ;)

Yes, I could. As originally portrayed by Kirby, the Surfer was extremely powerful. (..and was originally intended to be a being created from the Power Cosmic by Galactus.) He was "powered down" later to fit in with the trapped on Earth motiff and powered up in his 1987 ongoing. In fact, Galactus and the Surfer were very poorly handeled in general until Byrne came on FF and restored thei

Sure. I didn't plan on making the board private or anything. If it takes off, I'm sure there would be the possibility of multiple GM's and campaigns down the road. The gist of my Marvel U is that it's "idealized" as to represent all the major characters in their most popular eras. With that motif in mind, I see no real limit to campaign possibilities.

Nice to see even more interest. I have two players that are in so far and I see no problem in adding around four more. I already have the board up, though it's not finished, but I certainly should have it all done by Friday. I'll be posting a ton of game material on said board as well.
Looks like I'll be getting off work early tomorrow, so I'll email all those that asked t

Powersurge, I forget where it was mentioned (I'll have to look for it) but in one comic I have, it mentions that the Surfer had been Galactus' herald for centuries. Remember, Zenn Lavian's have lifespans in the thousands of years, so you can't go by "apparent age" when looking at Shalla Bal, for instance.
Another interesting point to Silver Surfer #4, where the S

Ok. Those rules still don't work for me, particularly the falling on adamantium thing. Hardness accounts for a lot, after all. Going by that, it wouldn't matter if you hit anything from RM to whatever material strength. Normal humans should never survive such falls, even in a relatively simple game system like MSH. Even in the comics characters die from things like that.

Ok, thanks. Charging damage being base endurance + distance x2 at least makes sense. The way the book words it seems to say that damage is also equal to modified endurance, which was my main point of confusion.
A few questions:
1. Why would Joe only take 26 points of damage from hitting an adamantium surface? Isn't the weakest form of adamantium of Unearthly material strength? Would

Doing a few searches, I noticed that gamers much more experienced with running the game than myself are also mystified by the rules for these two situations.
Charging damage: The way it is written seems to state that Captain America, charging at the maximum of +3CS to endurance from 10 areas away, as an example, would inflict Monstrous damage (RM Endurance +3CS) + 10x2 for a total of 95 point

I merly browsed the site and I was just offering a suggestion from my point of view. I like the idea of the DBZ stats (even though though I'm not a big fan of the series) because it's original. The X-Men etc. are detailed all over the place, after all.

Perhaps some people are confused by your site as far as being a "classic" resource? Older fans might go to your site looking for X-Men stats and find themselves browsing characters like "Vegeta" and "Piccolo" in utter confusion. It's a nice site, I think you should simply mention in the title that it's a DBZ to MSH rules site.

I think I will give it a go at GMing/Judging. What I would like, ideally, is to find four players, with at least one of those players having experience playing MSH to be an "assistant", to start an online game of MSH. My format is undecided, but right now I'm limited to either play by post or a live game over Yahoo messenger. (If anyone could come up with a better, easier, FREE, RP

Who cares? Doomsday was a vehicle to justify the gimmick of "The Death of Superman." He was a boring character that no longer has a reason to exist. In my book "real" characters like Superman, Darkseid, and the Hulk (all of whom could defeat him in many ways), should not be made to look bad by a dull quasi-character like this. I mean, jeez, anyone could create a MSH character

I'm using the standard strengths ranks up to Unearthly, but I'm toying with the idea of increasing the lifting capacity of Shift X, Y, Z, to allow a little more consistency with what characters can do, and do quite frequently, in the comics. Using a similar method as described in the Vigilantes section on this site I've almost settled on this:
