Well, If I was the Thing's player, as soon as the bolder was thrown (and for it to do SH X damage is quite high), but I would either try to catch the thing in mid air, or punch it as it came down, perhaps shattering the bolder to begin with.

Cappy and the Thing should not be able to withstand the same level of punishment, no. The Thing is big, strong, has his thick hide. And is a pretty decent fighter from what I remember (INC fighting I believe). All those things would factor in, just like Captain America would, with his AMZ fighting and INC agillty and all the talents he has in a fight.
