Animal stats/Judge's Book
October 22, 2004 11:52AM
Is there any updated info on animal stats? Some of the ones I see in the Judge's Book seem wrong. I'm no animal expert, but I think that apes deserve higher agility than Gd, and the birds' agility should be higher than they are. I kind of question whether or not gorillas should have more than Ex strength, and even they should have a higher agility rank.
Gators and crocs maybe should have some body armor due to their thick hides.
I think that cats are listed as having Gd agility, they should obviously have a higher rank.
Some of the animals have the capability to inflict damage by biting or clawing, but their fangs' and claws' material strengths aren't listed. I guess that maybe they do strength rank in damage, or you can just give them a material strength rank of Gd or Ex.
There are other things about the animal listings that don't make sense, but I don't remember which ones they are.

I have as well Good Doctor. I also give it to Oorangs as they are actually stronger than the average Gorilla. Even though they look like a fat guy in a rug.

Killer B,
Why dont you post what you think the stats should be? I dont think we have ever done a zoological post. Though I could be wrong.

Okay, I'll do a little work on them. I don't have my books with me right now, but I'l look through the animals section again when I get home and post it when I think it looks good enough. I might even do a little work on the supporting cast of humans, too, since some of it doesn't seem right.
I've been a little busy lately, putting my own powers book together.
Also, I've recently been learning to do DCH to MSH conversions, and doing so using different sytsems. I've also made my own by taking what works for me and combining it into one system. I find that the results are almost identical to results made from other systems. This has been taking up alot of my spare time, but I enjoy doing it. Actually I've been spending more time doing conversions than I have playing the game.

I believe that giving low agility to small animals like birds is necessary so that their overall health score stays low. Also I don't think Crocs (or any animal) deserve body armor because in the classic Marvel RPG, guns do very little damage. No animal can resist a gunshot. However, I do agree about Gorillas having REM strength.

Okay, after looking through the Supporting Cast section of the Judges Book I did my version of it. It might seem to be the same as in the book, but if you compare you'll see some differences. I stuck with real, modern-day animals and didn't bother with dinosaurs or behemoths.

Wow, awesome. :-o

Cheetahs run at 60 MPH, but only for a very short time. Can we quantify that?
The running game mechanic allows someone to get 1 extra area/round if they make a strength FEAT. Could that work?

This might just be me, but I think that a randomn animal would have a higher Intuition score than a randomn human. Almost every animal here has Feeble. I know the Judge's Book gives the average animal a below than average human Intuition score but, well, I think the official rules are wrong too. At the very least you would have to give most animals Enhanced Senses of some sort. That would allow them to substitute their Power Rank in Senses for their Intuition score (page 71 Player's Handbook).

true_dweomer -- not all animals possess senses better than human's. Most primates senses aren't that different from humans, for example, or at least not enough to warrant any real increase. Cats and dogs, though, sure.

Most animals have at least one sense better than humans, yes, but most animals also have at least one sense worse than humans. For example, our eyesight is much better than that of a dog. They have better hearing and smell, but they're much less observant. Eagles have fantastic eyes, and everything else unexceptional. Stuff like that.
