Magical Artifact Questions

Considering that we've seen examples of magical artifacts being used as power sources for high-tech devices what would be the minimum Reason rank required to design a device for such purposes? Also how would one determine the level of energy one could tap into for such an item?

For example we've seen Thor's hammer (the most common example in fact) used to jerry-rig a Quinjet to travel at FTL speeds through Hyperspace and freeze time via a device crafted by Dr. Doom, yet what is its Energy Source rating for such things (other than being a minimum of Unearthly given the requirements listed under the article for creating FTL and Hyper-Space worthy craft). Also doesn't it seem wrong that Reed Richards can craft a device to tap into the hammer given his inability to accept or comprehend magic and Mjolnir is a magical artifact?

"A shared universe, like any fictional construct, hinges on suspension of disbelief. When continuity is tossed away, it tatters the construct. Undermines it."

Magic artifacts are an easy way to justify various technical leaps of engineering or generating new abilities…… Such as Juggernaut’s gain of power..

For an item like Thor’s hammer or Juggernaut’s stone of ‘Cattek’ or whatever it’s called would probably only need GD:10 to RM:30 Reasoning (or TY:06 with a Talent) to build a vehicle or other structure around the artifact….. (Given that the artifact harnesses CL:1000 Power)

Supposedly, Items such as these radiate pure and refined energy…. Like a Duracell Battery of endless juice.

I’d say the engineer’s Reason Rank X 10 is a solid measurement for pulling the maximum ‘Juice’ from such an Item….

So you take Thor’s Hammer with EX:20 Reasoning (and the appropriate Talent) and build a machine around the Hammer which can harness SY:200 power……. UN:100 Reasoning can pull CL:1000 power from the Magic Item.

The other factors would be production time of the prototype machine and Resources to collect all the other technology around the Magic Artifact.

Reasoning (or Hyper Reasoning Power) would determine Hours, Days, Months, or Years…. So with just basic EX:30 Reasoning would take the Engineer ‘Years’ to build a fully functional vehicle or machine around the Magic Item.

+ Below EX:20 would be ‘Years’
+ RM:30 to AM:50 would be ‘Months’
+ MN:75 and UN:100 would be ‘Days’
+ SZ:500 would be ‘Hours’
+ CL:1000 would be ‘Minutes’

Resources would further subtract Time from production…… Pretty much like Galactus who can summon all his Planet Eating tools in just seconds.

I have always treated magic as just another form of energy (in the cosmic energy category). Practicioners have just learned to harness it through mental/emotional patterns as well as (or in place of) written/spoken and physical/gesture patterns. Instead of only through a purely physical medium such as muscle and circuits.

With this explanation using items with inherant magic to power technology is not so much of a stretch.
