An Appeal to Reason?

I think I'm seeing the answers to my own questions floating around in this
forum already--or even a few areas. I will not contribute to any flaming or
heated debates. If I see a thread that's heading in that direction, I'm not
going to get into the dicussion.

I have better things to do with my time and enough stress in my life as is.
I've been an active poster to these forums, for almost a decade, all told.
I've seen spats appear before, but nothing quite like the recent rounds of
uncivility and name calling that've been going on.

Short version? I'll happily contribute to and be a part of civil debates of
my favourite gaming system. I'll post my characters to the thread I created
over at Your Favourites. I'll do up stats when they fall within my area of
expertise and interest. I'll offer opinions in places where it's welcome...
but I find myself disappointed with some of the members of our community,
who have devolved to the above mentioned behaviors.

I'm not going to feed egos by getting "in" on it. Period. You want the ear
of the community and attention? There are better ways to do it, and may I
suggest you consider settling your differences OFF the forums? That's all
I'm going to say on the matter.

Regards,

Niniri

As long as I'm not being arrogantly told to "go back and read the rules" on a power description I'm discussing, by someone who is obviously having trouble parsing the English language used in that power description and is also obviously having trouble with the concept of math in that description (using such arcane concepts like 2 is greater than 1, 3 is greater than 2, and so on), I'll try to appeal to any existing Reason that remains.

If I'm not flipped off as the idiot first.

If.

NiniriAZ,

I agree with your overall comment/advice, but what is the particular threads or people you are talking about? I hope I haven't crossed a line somewhere?

personally I have been disappointed in much of what is being passed as a worthy topic nowadays.

GAW, you haven't done anything untoward! There have been conversations around
here lately that are not worth rehashing, or further exacerbating by doing so
all over again. (At least you've not done anything that *I* have seen or been
disturbed or preturbed by...)

For my part, I'm sorry my argument with Nightmask got ugly, and I still think Nightmask makes and can make positive contributions to the board.

But I'm not about to be tantamount to being accused of illiteracy during a discussion of a rule we're both (hopefully) looking at.

Tactful disagreement, with a case to support it is fine.

"Go back and read the rules, I'm not talking to you anymore" is not.

Let's move on.

Leave last year in last year. It's over and done with. Most everyone here can
make positive contributions. Let's not dwell on the negative by bringing it back
up, over and over again.

I'd like to see the civility restored with the new year, and move on.

Sounds good to me. I agree that we should let the past stay there, it does nothing to help anyone to dredge up negativity except those who feed on aformentioned negativity and I would like to think none of us are that type of person.

No problem, TLD. I'm glad somebody appreciates a need for civility and good nettiquette.
That's part of what's made this place a good forum and a great place to 'be' on the net.

Niniri
