Forgotten Military Careers

So how many characters, especially the old-school/first generation of Marvel characters in particular, have military backgrounds that have been forgotten or gone left off of the talents of said characters? Professor X and Juggernaut for example are both ex-military, as are Mr. Fantastic and the Thing, with Military and Guns talent as a result that seems to get left off of references regarding them. So what other characters are in the same boat?

it's hard to say because of the sliding timeline thing. only certain characters are hard and fast tied to certain eras, such as Cap with WWII, and Punisher with Vietnam. Iron Man has been slid from having been a POW in Vietnam to the Soviet Conflict in Afghanistan [though Stark wasn't a vet, but some kind of consultant in either case] as an example.

I don't think Xavier or Marko have been inextricably tied to the Korean War, or Storm to the 7 Days War, or Reed & Thing to WWII as their original origins contained.

Actually IRONMAN has slid a couple of times. a re-origin issue pre-ONSLAUGHT had him in "South East Asia conflict"
so the historical 60's-early 70's fixed timeline would be left ambiguous.

eventually the only characters who will be proven to get older is Cap and Nick Fury ( partly kidding plus there reduced ageing )

or anyone who is tied to a specific historical event/years.

Still even with Reed's partly military background - he with some others might not garner the Guns talent. have not seen him fire a conventional gun in comics.

I should of clarafied the last post in saying the " south east asian conflicted" was referenced in a minor origin slide for Ironman and the phrase " The Vietnam War " was never used again.

but they still kept it an asian origin. After ONSLAUGHT I am unsure if they referenced it again or when exactly they changed to the Afganastan origin.(?)

Onslaught gave them a chance though to better 'fix' those origin points though, since everyone involved was basically restored in a more youthful and invigorated form (or in Iron Man's case they killed off the kid that replaced the backstabbing mind-controlled traitor Iron Man and remade him into a supposedly clean and heroic-adult version with all the memories of the dead traitor).

I just noticed (and can't believe I never thought about it before) but Forge is definitely missing the Military and Guns talents. Heck his original introduction and flashbacks for his past tend to center on his Vietnam trauma where he used the souls of his dead comrades to call up a demon gate on an enemy then called in an airstrike to cover up his actions.

Also would Forge be considered to have a fixed starting point like the Punisher is?

Considering his memories have always been of the 'Nam, I'd say yeah, he's fixed (and a pretty old guy for a superhero at that).

Well he's probably been fixed ever since that bomb that took his hand and leg... :D

Considering Forge has always been drawn up as the mature and experienced veteran warrior like Cable was when he was introduced it fits having him be older than everyone else. Plus given his mutant and magical heritage they can better explain him still being relatively youthful as a Vietnam vet than they can for Frank Castle (which pretty much can't be explained away without slipping him some of the Infinity Formula Nick Fury uses to keep as young as he was during WWII).
