Have you come to know Thor as your personal lord and savior?

I'm on a sleepless comic book geek out, so please indulge my passionate ranting with tomatoes or what not:

Suggesting some tweaks here, inspired by the Superman vs. Black Bolt thread that went sideways into throwing strength ranges and my disagreement with the stats for Superman listed here at classicmarvel.com, which went further to suggest tweaks to Thor and the Hulk stats.

Here goes:

- Raise Superman Shift-Y strength, and allow his "willpower" caveat to boost his strength to a max of Class 1000. Enough to toss stuff into orbit (line of sight range), and enough to destroy the Earth, one half of a cubic square mile at a time.

- Raise Thor's True Invulnerability to Monstrous, and his natural Strength stat to Shift Z. Mjolnir does Class 1000 damage when Thor ain't holding back, similarly wrecking a cubic half-mile of the Earth per round if he were in the mood to "not hold back." Allow both Superman's and Thor's Invulnerability to downgrade even Class 1000+ levels of damage. [Want to convince your GM to let you have this "powerful" version of *True* Invulnerability for your character? Tack on a power slot per column shift higher than Shift Z that the power can downgrade damage from to the power's cost at character creation time...ka-ching...please drive through...]

- Lower the Hulk's True Invulnerability to Amazing, but allow it to also downgrade Class 1000 level damage. Raise the Hulk's starting stat Strength to Shift X, and allow his adrenaline surges to pump him up to a max of Class 1000 Strength and his Regeneration power to Shift Z.

- Let Thor's Belt of Strength boost his Shift-Z strength to Class 1000, similarly raising Mjolnir's damage ability to Class 3000 but risking damage to the hammer against materials of similar (Class 3000) material strength. *Strength Personified...* (so if you really want Thor to be the protector of Midgard... since the strength boost provided by the Belt of Strength is of a *magical* nature - Superman's True Invulnerability doesn't get to downgrade the damage as per Supes' weakness to magic.)

- Change Odin's Class 1000 spell regarding the "worthiness" test of those who might try to lift Thor's hammer Mjolnir to work on the same principle as downshifting damage with True Invulnerability. If you're not worthy, your Strength FEAT attempt to lift Mjolnir is downgraded -15 column shifts. Which explains why nobody can lift a hammer that weighs whatever it weighs.

None of the fights between any of these characters will be quick and painless, but Thor is MIGHTIEST OF ALL.

Hoo-ah!

"The Boot" version 2

Described earlier in a Thor vs. Doomsday thread, this manuever from my Marvel gaming circles is called "the boot."

Just like the "boot" put on your tire by the cops when you have too many parking tickets, you ain't going anywhere.

The attack is simple. Thor puts Mjolnir on your foot. Or across your prone body. You ain't worthy, you ain't moving Mjolnir. In any direction. At all. Ever.

Not until someone worthy of lifting Mjolnir lets you up.

This alone forces the option for players to deliver upon a would be munchkin character a savage and humiliating curb stomping.

Now with characters possessed of Earth-wrecking strength (Class 1000+), they might still throw a flailing tantrum, causing earthquakes and the like, but never shaking the hammer off themselves nor gaining the leverage to wriggle out from beneath the hammer.

Except now Thor has child of Gaia powers, and the hammer has always had some level of energy absorption qualities.

I'm betting even the tantrums of a Class 1000+ strengthed Mjolnir "booting" victim would not shake a leaf in the surrounding area.

Thor is your "beeyotch be cool" card.

That way too overpowers Thor, and actually Thor _isn't_ strength personified, that's his son Magni or Magdi (whichever is the right spelling) who only exists in various future What-If storylines currently, much like some of Thor's and other Norse Gods randier natures have been left out at Marvel (although interesting how they did end up acknowledging it with Loki).

Thor was originally considered if I remember correctly to require his Belt of Strength and Iron Gauntlets in order to wield Mjolnir, as only his son had the immeasurable strength to lift the hammer unaided.

In the Comico universe that featured the Elementals there interpretation of things held somewhat at least to Marvel lines, as an archaeologist who found Thor's belt gained Unearthly rank strength as a result, which would imply Thor was rated at Unearthly in that Reality, since he'd be doubling lifting 100 tons to 200 tons if the belt added to make someone able to lift 100 tons (with suitable increase in physical durability to handle that kind of strength).

I just can't see that working for a number of reasons, one of which being Thor's an honorable warrior and to pin someone like that smacks of cowardous, as if he fears the fight so simply hides from it.

It's humiliation of someone he doesn't want to just beat to death, mostly.

Marvel hasn't ever portrayed the Norse pantheon (or any other real-world / ancient Earth pantheons, from Christian faith to frozen Captain America worshippers) with any level of true "omnipotence" in the deities on top.

So, to make excuses for religious ignorance, Magni is still "an itch in his daddy's pants" so Thor still has *Strength Personified* in his sack, all ballin' like that, yo.

I would rate the Belt of Strength itself as giving a Typical Joe that wore it Unearthly strength also.

And I'd let it give +2cs to strength to Unearthly strength classed characters and above, to a max of Class 1000.

And, being entirely magical, it wouldn't boost Superman *at all.*

Since when? Superman's MORE vulnerable to magic, of course magic could give him a strength boost.

Merely just for preferred best-of-both-worlds GM's campaign flavor.

Either the Belt of Strength's empowering magics don't work for Superman, or...

...the magic weapon Mjolnir splatters Superman like train vs. grape.

Superman taking an extra CS of damage from Thor's hammer hardly qualifies as going Splat from a strike from it, and he's been shown in the past benefiting from magical augmentation of his strength and durability. The only way for something like Thor's Belt of Strength to not work on Superman would be the opposite, he'd have to be impervious to magic at all levels which he isn't because all mortal beings are vulnerable to magic (although Pre-Crisis while he was whining about it he'd talked Dr. Fate into enchanting him to be invulnerable to magic as well, but recanted after a convenient encounter with magical beings that made him appreciate his vulnerability).

Well, in my Marvel-biased Marvel+DC campaigns of the past, and currently, (using my own finessed versions of character stats...) Superman's Unearthly TI only lets him downgrade up to CL1000 damage [if Siegel and Schuster had added 2 power slots to the cost of Superman's True Invulnerability beyond its normal power slot costs when they submitted the character to me, heh, he could downgrade Class 3000 damage...] so Thor amped up with the Belt of Strength would *still* splatter Superman with Mjonir at full Class 3000 damage.
